¡®The Korean academy of pediatric allergy and respiratory disease¡¯ was founded in 17 April 1987 by 26 pediatricians of Scandinavian club in the National Medical Center, gathered for the purpose of friendship and exchanging information on the study of allergy. The need for a wider range of research and exchange of information was brought up during the six years of active participation in the field afterwards, and so a research organization was formed in the name of ¡®The Korean academy of pediatric allergy and respiration disease¡¯ on 17 April 1993. The organization registered as an associate member of the Korean Association of Medical Sciences on 28 December 1993 and have been actively contributing to the field ever since.

Professor Keun-Chan Son (Yonsei University, College of Medicine) undertook the role of president in the time of the establishment of ¡®Pediatric Allergy Research Center¡¯, then Professor Woo-Kap Jung(Hanllim University, College of Medicine), Professor Ki-young Lee(Yonsei University, College of Medicine) and Professor Hye-Son Yoon(Hanllim University, College of Medicine) followed the role of president afterward. Professor Sang-il Lee(Sung Kyun Kwan University, College of Medicine) took assumption of the office since 1999 and have been leading the association in union with the active participation of its participants.

The resulting data of the research ¡°The nation-wide research of allergic diseases in teenage children in Korea¡± where many members of the association have actively participated during the three years from 1995 to 1997 with the funding of research grant from the Ministry of Health and Welfare was reported at the 10th Anniversary celebration of the Association in Lotte World Hotel during 11-12 of April 1997. The representatives from 10 different countries around the Asian Pacific were invited to the symposium to make their presentations on ¡°Pediatric Allergy Diseases in the countries around Asia¡±, which brought more international respect to the conference. This became the foundation for the ¡°Asia Pacific Association of Pediatric Allergy, Respiratory and Immunology (APAPARI)" which was organized in May of 1998.

The first edition of ¡°Children who live with the cold¡± was published by the association in October of 1995 to help and aid with the people¡¯s understanding of pediatric allergy and respiratory diseases. Then the revised edition of ¡°Children who live with the cold¡± was published in June of 1999, along with ¡®101 facts of Wisdom to beat children¡¯s allergies¡± for the parents of allergic children and ¡°Treatment Guidelines for Pediatric Allergies¡± was published as a guideline for the pediatricians.
